Point Sebago Resort - A History of Giving

Camp Sunshine Web SiteCasco Maine. Point Sebago Resort owners Larry and Anna Gould have always believed in giving back to the community and to those less fortunate. That would explain why they donated their resort facilities for 17 years to Camp Sunshine and why the resort continues to raise over $80,000 annually to support this retreat for children with life threatening illnesses and their families.

From 1984 to 2000, Point Sebago Resort closed its doors to its regular paying guests for 4 weeks and devoted its 775-acre lakefront resort complete with 18-hole golf course, marina, 10 tennis courts and its entire staff to Camp Sunshine. In 2001, Camp Sunshine opened its own dedicated facilities, thanks to the Gould’s donation of 15 acres of lakefront land from Point Sebago Resort.

“The smiles we see on those families’ faces after a week at Camp Sunshine make it all worthwhile,” commented Anna Gould. Larry and Anna actually coordinate many aspects of the successful program from fund raising to coordination of accommodations, meals, activities, on-site medical care and professional workshops to provide this weeklong retreat for critically ill children and their families.

The mission of Camp Sunshine is “to repair the fabric of the family that has been damaged by the impact of the illness”. There is no charge to the participating families. The children and their families came from 22 states across the country last year. Over the years, Camp Sunshine has cared for over 3,500 families.

A few of the annual programs Point Sebago Resort coordinates to help support Camp Sunshine include:

1. Cans for Camp Sunshine – an annual program. Each Point Sebago guest is given a special recycling bag. Guest place all of their recyclable cans in this bag and resort personnel collect the bags. All profits from this program benefit Camp Sunshine.
2. Weekly Resort Carnival during the summer. All profits from this program benefit Camp Sunshine.
3. Monte Carlo weekend and other special Casino and Bingo nights during the summer. All proceeds from these events benefit Camp Sunshine.
4. Country Western Weekend Country Star Memorabilia Auction. All proceeds from this event benefit Camp Sunshine.

These programs combine to allow Point Sebago Resort to raise over $80,000 annually to benefit Camp Sunshine.
